SUMMARY:Webinar | Operations Plans
DESCRIPTION:This course Operations Plan is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nYour only licensed operator has just left town due to a family emergency and handed you the phone number of a certified operator in the next town. Will the substitute operator know how your system works and what needs to be done daily to keep it safe and in compliance? A properly prepared Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Plan is one of a water purveyor’s most important documents. The O&M Plan is a “living” document that explains how a public water system is to be operated and maintained on a day-to-day basis to ensure public health\, safety and compliance with applicable regulations. In addition to being an important training tool for new staff\, the O&M manual serves as a practical handbook by which a qualified substitute operator can operate and maintain the system in a safe and reliable manner in absence of the system’s primary operator. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nVital elements that comprise an O&M Plan\n\n\nThe two most important tools needed for developing an O&M Plan\n\n\nPolicies and procedures for keeping your O&M Plan updated\n\n\nAbout free resources and templates for developing O&M Plans

SUMMARY:Webinar | PITT Findings on PFAS Destruction Technologies
DESCRIPTION:The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment is one of the most pressing environmental issues facing our nation. The unique chemical characteristics of PFAS lead to their persistence in the environment and make their complete destruction extremely difficult. EPA has been aggressively working to find solutions to address PFAS issues in communities across the nation\, including establishment of EPA’s PFAS Innovative Treatment Team (PITT) in spring 2020 – a six-month\, dedicated full-time team of EPA researchers brought together to concentrate on exploring disposal and destruction options for PFAS-contaminated waste. During the PITT’s operation\, the team worked together to: \n\nAssess current and emerging PFAS destruction technologies being explored by EPA\, universities\, other research organizations and industry.\nExplore the efficacy of these PFAS destruction technologies\, including consideration of potentially hazardous byproducts.\nEvaluate the feasibility\, performance and cost of various PFAS destruction methods to better understand potential solutions.\n\nThis presentation will highlight the results of the PITT’s research and next steps for PFAS waste treatment technologies. \nRegister with the link below or take a look at the flyer for more information:  \nToolsWebinar_Flyer_PITT Findings on PFAS Destruction Technologies

SUMMARY:Webinar | Understanding Bacteriological Quality Standards
DESCRIPTION:This course Understanding Bacteriological Quality Standards is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nProviding safe and affordable drinking water to customers is the primary objective of any drinking water system. Routine monitoring for bacterial contamination is one of the most effective indicators of a potentially hazardous condition in your system. Although waterborne disease outbreaks are relatively uncommon in the United States\, the threat can be deadly. Missed routine and repeat samples are costly in many ways including time\, lab fees\, penalties and consumer confidence\, not to mention the health risk to the public. \nJoin us to learn or review the bacteriological standards required by both California State Total Coliform Rule (TCR) and Federal Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR). This workshop will address public water system standards for ensuring bacteriological quality through monitoring and reporting. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nThe importance of total coliform as an indicator of water quality\nCompliance with California state and federal bacteriological quality monitoring and reporting regulations\nPublic Notification requirements\nTriggers and follow-up for Level 1 and Level 2 assessments

SUMMARY:Webinar | Pumps\, Motors & Energy Efficiency
DESCRIPTION:This course Pumps\, Motors & Energy Efficiency is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nPumping water is one of the most inefficient uses of energy there is. Most water pumping systems only convert 30 to 60 percent of the power they consume (and you pay for) into useful work\, one of the lowest margins of efficiency of all uses of energy. Why? The laws of physics mostly\, but also simple mistakes made in selecting a pump or motor for a given duty point. This workshop will help you understand and minimize inefficiency in your pumping systems and teach you how to choose the right pump and motor for the job—one that will save money year after year. \nThis workshop will give participants a variety of tools\, tips and information they can use to reduce energy costs at their utilities. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nWhere to find and how to use free Total Dynamic Head (TDH) and horsepower calculators on the internet\nHow to calculate TDH in a fluid pumping system\nHow to solve wire-to-water energy calculations\nThe six factors in friction loss and how to minimize them

SUMMARY:Webinar | COVID-19 Vaccination for Water Sector
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offering a free webinar on Wednesday\, Feb. 10\, 2021\, at 1 p.m. ET\, addressing COVID-19 vaccination in the water sector. The webinar will offer an overview of vaccine distribution and implementation and briefly discuss safety and efficacy to drinking water and wastewater treatment workforce\, including engineers\, sanitation workers and other administrative and professional staff. While the webinar is free\, registration is required. \nAWWA recommends those interested to register soon as space will be limited and spots will be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. Additionally\, the CDC encourages participants to submit questions when they register so the presenter can address any frequently asked questions. \nThe webinar registration details are:\nhttps://cdc.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_nIdhO7LWQf6kOLCkWq1eXA \nBackground\nOn Dec. 20\, 2020\, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) adjusted the vaccine prioritization guidance\, placing water and wastewater workers in the “Other Essential Workers” category\, which is now part of Phase 1C. The new Phase 1B consists of people at least 75 years of age and frontline essential workers. Phase 1C includes people 65-74 years of age\, people between 16-64 years of age with high-risk medical conditions and other essential workers. Currently\, most states have adopted CDC’s revised prioritization\, but the actual distribution remains a state health department decision. \nQuestions can be directed to Kevin Morley\, federal relations manager.
