SUMMARY:Webinar | Recruitment & Retention
DESCRIPTION:This course Recruitment & Retention is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course.  \nYour water operator\, office staff or manager has just given their notice and they are moving on to another job. They have been there for years and know the system history\, where all the (hidden) valves/meters are\, and developed relationships with all entities required to manage or operate a public water system. The powers that be (local government and/or management) may be wondering\, “What could we have done to prevent this employee from seeking other employment?” and “How do we go about hiring someone to replace this valuable resource?” This workshop will utilize the trainer’s and participant’s experiences to explore these conundrums. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nAbout advertising\, interviewing and hiring of water system managers\, office staff and operators\nThe resources available to assist with hiring good people\nAbout budgeting to acquire and retain competent staff\nHow to use staff evaluations to help with retention longevity\nHow to retain excellent staff (hint\, it’s not always about the money!)

SUMMARY:Webinar | PITT Findings on PFAS Destruction Technologies
DESCRIPTION:The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment is one of the most pressing environmental issues facing our nation. The unique chemical characteristics of PFAS lead to their persistence in the environment and make their complete destruction extremely difficult. EPA has been aggressively working to find solutions to address PFAS issues in communities across the nation\, including establishment of EPA’s PFAS Innovative Treatment Team (PITT) in spring 2020 – a six-month\, dedicated full-time team of EPA researchers brought together to concentrate on exploring disposal and destruction options for PFAS-contaminated waste. During the PITT’s operation\, the team worked together to: \n\nAssess current and emerging PFAS destruction technologies being explored by EPA\, universities\, other research organizations and industry.\nExplore the efficacy of these PFAS destruction technologies\, including consideration of potentially hazardous byproducts.\nEvaluate the feasibility\, performance and cost of various PFAS destruction methods to better understand potential solutions.\n\nThis presentation will highlight the results of the PITT’s research and next steps for PFAS waste treatment technologies. \nRegister with the link below or take a look at the flyer for more information:  \nToolsWebinar_Flyer_PITT Findings on PFAS Destruction Technologies

SUMMARY:Webinar | Understanding Bacteriological Quality Standards
DESCRIPTION:This course Understanding Bacteriological Quality Standards is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nProviding safe and affordable drinking water to customers is the primary objective of any drinking water system. Routine monitoring for bacterial contamination is one of the most effective indicators of a potentially hazardous condition in your system. Although waterborne disease outbreaks are relatively uncommon in the United States\, the threat can be deadly. Missed routine and repeat samples are costly in many ways including time\, lab fees\, penalties and consumer confidence\, not to mention the health risk to the public. \nJoin us to learn or review the bacteriological standards required by both California State Total Coliform Rule (TCR) and Federal Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR). This workshop will address public water system standards for ensuring bacteriological quality through monitoring and reporting. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nThe importance of total coliform as an indicator of water quality\nCompliance with California state and federal bacteriological quality monitoring and reporting regulations\nPublic Notification requirements\nTriggers and follow-up for Level 1 and Level 2 assessments

SUMMARY:Webinar | Completing the Electronic Annual Report
DESCRIPTION:This course Completing the Electronic Annual Report is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nThe California Health and Safety Code specifies that a public water system shall submit a technical report to Division of Drinking Water (DDW) annually. Based on this requirement\, DDW provides an updated template each year to every regulated public water system to report current contact information and operational details for the prior year. This template is provided electronically and water systems are encouraged to submit the information through the eAR portal website. \nThis workshop will guide you through the process of registering for your account and completing the template for your water system. You will have access to the informational guide and an opportunity to ask questions. Follow along with us as we guide you step-by-step and provide tips on entering information correctly. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nHow to access your eAR account and template\nWhat resources are available including DDW eAR guidance\nThe correct format for information entry\nImportant dates/deadlines

SUMMARY:Webinar | Pumps\, Motors & Energy Efficiency
DESCRIPTION:This course Pumps\, Motors & Energy Efficiency is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nPumping water is one of the most inefficient uses of energy there is. Most water pumping systems only convert 30 to 60 percent of the power they consume (and you pay for) into useful work\, one of the lowest margins of efficiency of all uses of energy. Why? The laws of physics mostly\, but also simple mistakes made in selecting a pump or motor for a given duty point. This workshop will help you understand and minimize inefficiency in your pumping systems and teach you how to choose the right pump and motor for the job—one that will save money year after year. \nThis workshop will give participants a variety of tools\, tips and information they can use to reduce energy costs at their utilities. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nWhere to find and how to use free Total Dynamic Head (TDH) and horsepower calculators on the internet\nHow to calculate TDH in a fluid pumping system\nHow to solve wire-to-water energy calculations\nThe six factors in friction loss and how to minimize them

SUMMARY:Webinar | COVID-19 Vaccination for Water Sector
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offering a free webinar on Wednesday\, Feb. 10\, 2021\, at 1 p.m. ET\, addressing COVID-19 vaccination in the water sector. The webinar will offer an overview of vaccine distribution and implementation and briefly discuss safety and efficacy to drinking water and wastewater treatment workforce\, including engineers\, sanitation workers and other administrative and professional staff. While the webinar is free\, registration is required. \nAWWA recommends those interested to register soon as space will be limited and spots will be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. Additionally\, the CDC encourages participants to submit questions when they register so the presenter can address any frequently asked questions. \nThe webinar registration details are:\nhttps://cdc.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_nIdhO7LWQf6kOLCkWq1eXA \nBackground\nOn Dec. 20\, 2020\, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) adjusted the vaccine prioritization guidance\, placing water and wastewater workers in the “Other Essential Workers” category\, which is now part of Phase 1C. The new Phase 1B consists of people at least 75 years of age and frontline essential workers. Phase 1C includes people 65-74 years of age\, people between 16-64 years of age with high-risk medical conditions and other essential workers. Currently\, most states have adopted CDC’s revised prioritization\, but the actual distribution remains a state health department decision. \nQuestions can be directed to Kevin Morley\, federal relations manager.

SUMMARY:Webinar | Using MHI Data for Water System Management
DESCRIPTION:Is your small rural water system infrastructure coming to the end of its useful life? Are those replacement dates approaching quickly? Maybe your system is out of compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)\, or can’t meet peak daily water demand because of drought. Often small rural water systems find it difficult to set aside the appropriate reserve funds to pay for these costs and keep water rates affordable. Many systems depend on multiple state and federal funding sources in the form of grants\, and zero- or low-interest loans to remedy these challenges. Don’t assume that your system will qualify for these state and federal funds without doing your research. \nFunding agencies use the community’s median household income (MHI) to determine the grant amount and/or loan funds they can provide the system\, and what is an affordable service rate. This course will help you to determine if your system needs an income survey conducted\, and how it can be a tremendous benefit to your community. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nHow to determine if your system could benefit from an income survey\nBenefits analysis\nHow it could help you develop a stronger capital improvements plan\nThe MHI process\, how and when to get start\nWho conducts the survey\, and who’s going to pay for it.
