SUMMARY:Webinar | Revised Total Coliform Rule & Level 1 Assessment Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Drinking water is one of the oldest known public health concerns. Preventing waterborne disease is one of the primary objectives of any drinking water system. Although waterborne disease outbreaks are relatively uncommon in the United States\, they do occur. The importance of regular microbial monitoring cannot be over-emphasized. So much of your water system is underground and hidden from view; the only way to be sure you are effectively protecting public health is to monitor the quality of water delivered to customer taps. The primary tool for this is coliform monitoring. This regulation is in the process of revision. We will have the latest proposed language and key steps to remain in compliance during the interim period. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nImportance of maintaining microbial safe water\nActions necessary for the compliance with the RTCR\nPublic Notification under the RTCR\nBut wait\, there’s more!!! Reviewing and understanding the triggers for Level 1 and Level 2 assessments\n\nThe recommended audience includes managers and operators.

SUMMARY:Webinar | Go Small and Go Home: Point-of-Use & Point-of-Entry Treatment Systems
DESCRIPTION:This course Go Small and Go Home: Point-of-Use and Point-of-Entry Treatment Systems is offered two times on the same day\, attendees ONLY need to register once to take this course. \nSmall public water systems that face challenges associated with removing naturally occurring contaminants from potable water supplies often find the path to compliance challenging. Prior to 1996\, all water systems were required to use centralized treatment systems for the removal of naturally occurring contaminants. The1996 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) removed the prohibition on using point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) treatment devices for small public water systems in order to achieve compliance with some of the maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) established under the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations. These amendments have expanded the options small water systems may use to meet treated water standards for naturally occurring contaminants. \nPOU and POE treatment devices rely on many of the same treatment technologies used in centralized treatment plants. However\, while centralized plants treat all water distributed to consumers to the same level\, POU and POE treatment devices treat only a portion of the total flow. A POU device treats only the water intended for direct consumption (drinking and cooking)\, typically at a single tap or a limited number of taps\, while a POE device treats all the water entering a single home\, business\, school\, or facility. Ultimately\, POU or POE treatment devices may be an option for public water systems where central treatment is not affordable. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nTypes of POE/POU treatment technologies\nPOE/POU regulatory requirements and restrictions\nHow to plan for a POE/POU system\nThe installation\, maintenance\, and management of POE/POU systems\nCompliance and performance monitoring of POE/POU systems

SUMMARY:Webinar | The Balancing Act of Water & Agriculture in California
DESCRIPTION:The agriculture industry in California is pivotal not only to state residents\, but also to the entire country at large. According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture\, over a third of the vegetables in the US come from California\, as well as two-thirds of the nation’s fruits and nuts. Without this state’s agriculture industry\, many of the produce and dairy we have grown accustomed to having year-round would increasingly be in short supply. At the same time\, however\, more than 40% of California’s water is used by the agriculture industry. This pressure on the state’s water supply contributes to drought\, exacerbates climate change\, and impacts regional and state economies\, particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. At the local level\, water allocation to agriculture may compete with community resources. The right to safe and affordable drinking water continues to be unrealized for rural and immigrant farmworker communities\, even as they continue to perform essential work in our economy and feed our communities. \nIn this upcoming WELL Webinar\, The Balancing Act of Water & Ag in California\, we bring together experts in the agriculture industry from a variety of regions–from the Delta to the Central and Coachella Valleys–to discuss the relationship between water and agriculture in the state and explore environmental\, social\, and policy solutions that will help restore the balance between these two important resources. Register here to join us on April 1 from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.  \nWhile it is our priority to make our educational content free and accessible to all\, WELL is funded in part by your generous donations. Please consider supporting this WELL Webinar by making a donation upon registering. Our suggested donation is $25\, but we will gratefully accept anything you are able to give. Every dollar counts\, and we appreciate your support!

SUMMARY:Webinar | Small Water Utility Insights AWIA Compliance
DESCRIPTION:Goal: Provide small water community utilities with practical advice on meeting AWIA requirements. \nThe America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) of 2018 requires that small community water systems serving at least 3\,300 people assess the risks to\, and the resilience of\, their drinking water systems.  The AWIA requires performance of a Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA)\, which is due June 31\, 2021 and the development of an Emergency Response Plan (ERP)\, which is due December 31\, 2021. \nWater utility managers have long understood the concept of managing risk. Developing a robust RRA and ERP will benefit small community water systems by opening the door to new and ongoing discussions of their vulnerabilities\, including cybersecurity\, and potential risk mitigation needs\, leading to more dynamic policies and procedures. They also will learn how to align the RRA and ERP with Capital Improvement and Facilities Planning which can have the added benefit of incorporating new projects into their Capital Improvement and Facilities Plan. \nSession Topics and Speakers are: \n\nDr. Stephen Baruch\, Moderator (AARC)\nAWIA Compliance – Samantha McVety\, EPA Region 9 Coordinator for AWIA Certification\nUse of the Vsat Tool from a Practitioner Perspective – Deanna McMahan (SEMC)\nEmergency Response Plan\, Does and Don’ts – Gary Sturdivan (SEMC)\nAWIA Cybersecurity – Joe McCroy (AARC)\nQ&A
