EFCN: Resiliency Means Business! Preparing for Risks to Safe & Reliable Service

Webinar Only

Date & Time: Tuesday, August 9, 2022 | 10:00 - 11:00 AM PST Description: We hear about “resilience” a lot these days — given the many pressures and uncertainties felt by businesses, organizations and even individuals. For lifeline drinking water utilities, business continuity and performance is a matter of health and life safety. Resilience is often first thought of in terms of emergency and hazard recovery preparations. It extends beyond that to how business is supported in all ongoing aspects. This webinar serves as an introduction to this broad approach, and a gateway to free tools and assistance available from U.S. EPA and the Environmental Finance Center Network. Topics include: How to scan risk broadly, including the uncertainty of a changing environment; Access to tools through a downloaded guided inventory document and discussion of examples during the webinar, and; Opportunities for further one-on-one technical and training assistance from the Network. Presenter: Dr. Jack Kartez, Senior Advisor and Emeritus Director, New England Environmental Finance Center at the University of Southern Maine Who Should Attend: Managers, owners, and operators of water systems serving less than 10,000 people Decision-makers for water utilities, including mayors, finance officers, utility managers, public works directors, city councilors, board […]

RCAC: Get the Lead out: Lead & Copper Rule Revisions

Webinar Only

Get the Lead out: Lead & Copper Rule Revisions  Date & Time: August 9, 2022 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Description: After 30 years, the EPA has officially passed new regulations for the Lead and Copper Rule. These revisions are a major step toward keeping communities safe from lead. The new Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) will require the water systems and water system operator to rethink how they address lead and copper in their systems. These new requirements will require a thorough understanding of the LCRR's requirements so you can effectively engage in short- and long-term actions that will ensure compliance and safe water for all your customers.  This webinar will guide drinking water operators through the new Lead and Copper site selection process, criteria and sampling plans so that water supplies maintain compliance for lead and copper under the Safe Drinking Water Act. This is a free training. Participants will learn:  The requirements of the new lead service line inventory Lead service line replacement requirements Monitoring childcare and school facilities New monitoring requirements Expanded communications programs More stringent response to elevated lead levels Recommended Audience: Operators, managers, and board members. RCAC: Disinfection By-Products Rule

Webinar Only

Disinfection By-Products Rule Date & Time: August 10, 2022 | 10:00AM-12:00PM  Description: Certain commonly used drinking water disinfectants can react with naturally occurring materials in the water to form disinfection by-products (DBPs), which may pose long-term health risks. The Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR) and the Stage 2 Disinfection By-Product Rule (DBPR) are the second phase of regulations meant to strengthen protection against microbial contaminants, and at the same time reduce the potential health risks of DBPs. This workshop will examine the factors and causes of DBP formation and the regulatory framework of the Stage 1 and Stage 2 DBPR. This is a free training. Participants will learn:  The differences between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 rules How to Calculate Locational Running Annual Averages (LRAA) and flow-weighted averaging for compliance reporting How to identify a Combined Distribution System (CDS) and whether it applies to you Alternative disinfectants and application practices that may reduce or eliminate DBP formulation Recommended Audience: Operators, managers, or water systems that chlorinate their water. Location: This training will be hosted online on GoToTraining.
