Presentation 1: Drinking Water Microbiology 102 Bacteriology. The understanding of microorganisms has led to the many advancements in water treatment and the birth of the federal drinking water program. This presentation will explain how microbiologist use certain laboratory techniques to enumerate and study bacteria in drinking water. The presentation will delve into how the water matrix, sample collection and laboratory processing can impact the bacterial counts and recovery. (Presentation by Laura Boczek, EPA's Office of Research and Development) Presentation 2: Microbes 102: Evaluation and Approval of Methods Used to Analyze Drinking Water. This presentation is a follow up to the 2020 presentation “Microbes 101." The presentation provides an overview of the method review and approval processes of the federal drinking water regulatory program. It will describe how to locate the methods approved under each National Primary Drinking Water Regulation, how to obtain a copy of an approved method, and the different types of methods EPA approves. Providing safe and affordable drinking water to customers is the primary objective of any drinking water system. Routine monitoring for bacterial contamination is one of the most effective indicators of a potentially hazardous condition in your system. Although waterborne disease outbreaks are relatively uncommon in the United States, the threat can be deadly. Missed routine and repeat samples are costly in many ways including time, lab fees, penalties, and consumer confidence, not to mention the health risk to the public. Join us to learn or review the bacteriological standards required by both California State Total Coliform Rule (TCR) and Federal Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR). This workshop will address public water system standards for ensuring bacteriological quality through monitoring and reporting. Participants will learn: The importance of total coliform as an indicator of water quality Compliance with California state and federal bacteriological quality monitoring and reporting regulations Public Notification requirements Triggers and follow-up for Level 1 and Level 2 assessments

Research has shown the main reason injured employees litigate workers’ compensation claims is because they don’t feel like they have an advocate in the injury management process. Litigated claims have been linked to settlement delays, increased claims costs and a decreased chance of the employee returning to work once the claim is closed. This session covers: Impact of claim litigation Why employees litigate What Zenith does to reduce litigation What to do when litigation is your first notice of an employee injury Four steps employers should take to reduce the risk of litigation

Tractors, harvesters and other types of farm equipment travel daily on public roads. Unfortunately, fatal accidents involving farm equipment transit are increasing. Most of these accidents relate to another motor vehicle driver’s inability to react to or recognize slow moving and unfamiliar farm equipment. Farm equipment operators are also vulnerable to accidents on public roads due to the equipment’s large size and slow speed. In this course, you will learn best practices to plan, coordinate and conduct safe transit of farm equipment on public roads. This session covers: Key factors that contribute to farm equipment accidents on public roads Pre-transit planning considerations Farm equipment transit visibility and lighting requirements Safe transit practices for farm equipment operators

The fires in California have become increasingly vexing, and this workshop will focus primarily on fire prevention and recovery. It can happen to your water system! Water system emergencies are any situations that cause water outages, unsafe drinking water or any harm to humans or animals. Have you prepared ahead? Do you have a written response plan? Do you have mutual aid agreements in place? Are you prepared to interact with state and federal agencies afterward? This workshop will provide water system personnel with information and resources to respond preemptively and proactively to most emergency situations. Participants will learn: Ways to protect your water system before disaster strikes Lessons from emergencies experienced by the trainers How to establish effective mutual aid agreements How to create an emergency and disaster response plan using the Water Board-approved template Lessons learned regarding state and federal assistance immediately following emergencies
